Unit 8 Preview

I am looking forward to learning about the Vietnam War. My mom and my sister always talk about it and I never know what their talking about. I can't wait to hear what a soldiers life was like in the 60's-70's.

Times of change- reading 2

These articles talk about the effects on the villages and natives. These people were brutally murdered without a second guess as to why American soldiers were shooting at them. No matter if the town was or wasn't involved in this war each and every town that got into the America's way was destroyed.

Even if there are survivors these survivors don't get to return to anything but the remains of bombs and bullet casings.

• He saw bombs being dropped over Vietnam
• He had to make camp
• He witnessed the effects of the bombing on children
• He saw a load of body bags meant for him, following him into the war
• He witnessed the effects of war on soldiers
• He felt the loss of a friend
• He had to dig a foxhole to sleep in, that was only as big as a foot
• He was taking a walk through the woods and was ambushed
• He had to pretend to be dead so as not to be killed during another ambush
• Bullet shells burnt his skin
• A bomb landed on top of the man on top of him, it blew him up and wounded jack
• One of his vains was severed by a mortar
• Bomb were dropped right next to him
• Dead bodies were all around him, piled up
• At first Smith hates the war and held gruges, but then he relized that he cant change that and the loss of a friend is way more important than war itself

• Dubious-doubtful, Crusade- series of actions "doubtful series of actions"
• Warren is describing the war, what is happening. This will help us get a better understanding of the war, considering we werent alive to see the actual action.

• It is describing what some people considered the actual start of the War.
• Resolution that allowed them to have ships over seas, started the war.
• The attakc on Maddox.
• Because America wasnt guarenteed to win the war.

Ten important things everyone should know about the Korean War

1. Korea had originally been a Japanese colony for half a century when they surrendered in WWII
2. In 1945 soviets occupied north of the 38th parallel. America took control from south of the line, a communist government was forming in the north while a non communist government was forming in the south
3. The non communist leader of South Korea was supported by the United States.
4. The communist part, North Korea invaded the South starting a conflict called the Korean War
5. Truman got involved immediately, trying to prevent the spread of communism. By putting together a force of soldiers(mostly US) the non communists were going to go help South Korea under the UN name.
6. After being surrounded by the enemy North Korea fled back to the northern part of Korea.
7. With permission the UN followed the communists pushing them into China forcing them into the war.
8. After a long war and the firing of MacArthur, soviets suggested a truce which ended up lasting two years.
9. Eisenhower was elected in a land slide, and stuck to his word about ending the war quickly.
10. Through the end of the war communism was contained to Korea and North and South Korea were back were they started. In this case nobody won or lost the war it just ended.

Labor Force over the years

In the past 20 years blacks and other minorities have put up great efforts to become equal. Although the numbers are not as high as the average white man, minorities have made a successful climb on their job charts. Blacks went from 5.6-7.8 (million) civilians employed. The efforts still put forward to achieve better and more jobs are stronger than ever.

Unfortunately for black men, women today have a higher number work force. In 1980 black men were more dominate but in 2004 black women have been doing better than black men. This climb (if steady) should continue until 2012 when black women will have almost 1 million more employed. Leaving the black men less jobs.

For our work force to be equal we need to even out the jobs. The job statistics although increasing are far from equal. Factories and warehouses should hire even amounts of races and sexes, to even out the job force and to create equality among the country.
